Purnia: Purnia police have cracked a case of kidnapping within 48 hours on Friday. They not only recovered a student but also nabbed the two kidnappers who hatched the conspiracy for a ransom of Rs 25 lakh on Saturday.
Purnia SP Ajit Kumar Satyarthi, talking to TOI on Sunday said two young criminals, Chand and Sarwar, who were known to a student Tariq Umar, summoned him to Forbesganj Mor in Purnia town on Mrach 11 promising him to show a better coaching centre in the town.
As soon as Tariq Umar, a resident of the town under Sahayak police station area, reached Forbesganj Mor, they whisked him away in a four-wheeler, he said. The kidnappers took him away to village Rampur under Raniganj police station in neighbouring Araria district, and held him captive in a maize field. Umar was intermittently given some injection to keep him unconscious, the SP added.
After kidnapping the boy, the kidnappers got in touch with the boy’s father and demanded a ransom of Rs 25 lakh. However, the boy’s father instead of yielding to their pressure, summoned courage and informed the police, the SP said.
Working on some important leads, a special task force (STF) was formed which reached the maize field at Rampur under Ranjganj police station and recovered the kidnapped boy, who was lying unconscious on a ‘machan’, the SP said. The other members of the kidnappers’ gang, who were keeping a constant watch on the kidnapped boy, disappeared from the scene on getting wind of police’s arrival, he said.
The STF team also arrested Chand and Sarwar in Purnia on Saturday. While Chand belongs to Madhopara in Purnia, Sarwar is a native of Rauta in Purnia district. Sarwar was living at a private lodge in the town, police said. SP Satyarthi told TOI that five of their cohorts, who were keeping watch on the kidnapped boy, would soon be arrested and the four-wheeler, which was used for kidnapping the boy, would also be recovered.
